Get the Most out of your Massage

While massage is about relaxation and stress and pain relief, it is important to remember a few handy tips to get the most out of your massage. Massage is about keeping your body happy and we are going to help you maximise that happiness.

Try taking some time out before your treatment. Rushing to your appointment can leave you flustered and out of breath. If you can, arrive in ample time to give yourself some quiet time before the massage as well as to address any questions or concerns you might have.

If you have any questions with regards to the type of massage, the benefits or even the pressure, please do ask your therapist as he/she is there to help.

Here are some tips to help you before, during and after a massage:

  • Try not to eat a heavy meal before a treatment – if you are hungry have some fruit or a light snack
  • Do not drink alcohol before a massage as this can lead to nausea
  • Whilst receiving the treatment be sure to breathe normally and allow yourself to completely relax
  • It is very important to always vocalise any pain or discomfort you feel whilst having the massage so that the therapists can make the necessary changes.
  • Do not tense up as this can be counter-productive
  • Once the massage is finished, get up slowly as you might feel slightly light headed or disorientated, this is completely normal.
  • Try and ensure you have nothing to do after your massage as this will allow your body to rebalance

Massage not only works your muscles but also your mind helping to leave you feeling calm and relaxed. Sometimes your body will feel sore or tired after a massage but this is completely normal and is part of the healing process so don’t be alarmed or panic if you experience pain or discomfort. Toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage and it is therefore always recommended to drink plenty of water – the water is key to moving the toxins through your kidneys and out of the body. A hot bath also encourages the release of toxins.

If you do not have massage regularly your muscles will respond with slight sensitivity but stretching and allowing yourself to relax after the massage helps your muscles to feel fresh and rejuvenated.

Do not feel guilty about allowing yourself to relax after your massage – this is your time to allow your body to heal.

Remember a healthy body is a happy body.
